The Solothurn Madonna

The Solothurn Madonna
By Hans Holbein the Younger
1522
Oil on wood, 140.5 x 102 cm
Museum der Stat Solothurn, Solothurn, Switzerland

You know, I don't remember the part in the Bible where a dude in armor with a giant feather shows up to see the baby Jesus....

I’m thinking it’s kinda like the Santa Claus racket,
where there are many subcontractors working
under the auspices of the Main Man, for photo ops
and to attend business openings and such.
I imagine it’s quite rare to get one-on-one time
with the the real McCoy (or McSquishy);
you usually have to settle for a “traveling cast”
in places like Solothurn and Schenectady.
