Nativity, Adoration of the Christ Child

Nativity, Adoration of the Christ Child (detail)
By Friedrich Herlin
2nd half of 15th century
Oil on wood
The Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia

If I were to describe this painting to someone, I'd have to use air quotes around the word baby.

Well, to be fair, the name of the painting includes "child", not "baby." There wasn't room for the full description: Nativity, Adoration of the Christ Child Exhibiting Signs of Marfan Syndrome."
